About the Role

We're currently looking for a People Operations Partner, based in New York, to ensure the smooth running of our end-to-end people operations - making sure we’re paid correctly, covered properly and looked after well. You'll be the go-to person for how people ops functions across the whole organisation, from payroll and benefits to systems, data and compliance.

Supporting around 85 employees across the US, UK and Germany, you’ll report to our UK-based People Director and join a small, dedicated People team, across the US and UK. This is a hands-on role with real scope from day one.

What You’ll Do

• Own US, UK and German payroll and benefits: In the US, you’ll run multi-state payroll through Justworks, lead open-enrolment, benefits renewals, year-end filing and compliance and look after our 401(k) with Fidelity. In the UK and Germany you’ll manage our benefits providers and ensure monthly payroll runs smoothly and accurately.
• Keep us compliant: Stay on top of global employment requirements, own international employee handbooks and ensure contracts and employment paperwork are correct.
• Look after our people: Be the first point of contact for day-to-day HR questions, run smooth onboarding and offboarding and handle US employee relations cases with care and good judgement.
• Own our people systems and data: Keep our HRIS (Personio) accurate, pull the data behind our org health metrics and help us choose and shape the systems we use next.
• Connect global people operations: Own the people calendar and processes, working closely with our People Ops Partner in Europe.
• Partner with Finance: Support annual audits with quick, complete responses and manage People team supplier invoices and payments.
• Workplace management: Light-touch management of our WeWork offices in NY and SF. You’ll set up office access for new joiners and make sure that weekly office collaboration days work well.

What We’re Looking For

Motivated by mission-driven work, you're a practical people ops/HR generalist, with strong attention to detail and an improver mindset. You're happy switching between payroll management and a sensitive employee conversation in the same afternoon, and you take real pride in doing both well. You’ll have the confidence to manage all of our US operations and compliance.

Ideally, we are looking for someone who has:

• Hands-on US people operations experience: You've run payroll, benefits and 401(k) administration, ideally across several states and through a PEO like Justworks.
• Working knowledge of US employment compliance: You know your way around multi-state requirements. New York and California experience is strongly preferred.
• Start-up or small-organisation experience: You're comfortable with changing priorities, a varied workload and building/improving things as you go.
• A sharp eye for detail: You check the numbers before anyone else has to and have systems in place to catch mistakes.
• Good judgement and communication: You handle sensitive matters calmly, discreetly and fairly.
• Systems confidence: You're at home in HR systems, data and spreadsheets, and can demonstrate how you’ve made people processes more effective in your past work.
• Ownership: You work independently, follow things through and know when to escalate.

Nice to haves:

• Experience supporting employees outside the US, especially in the UK.
• Experience in a mission-driven, non-profit organisation or in the effective giving ecosystem.

Location and Travel Requirements

This role is based in New York City. You'll work from our Union Square WeWork one day a week with the remainder of our NY based team, and the rest of the week is flexible.

You’ll join a People Team offsite once per year (in either the UK or US) and may make visits to our SF office. We also bring our global team together in the UK each spring for our annual global offsite.
