Overview

Our customer, a large defence organisation, is seeking an experienced Safety Engineer to support the delivery of Acquisition Safety policy and solutions within a Land engineering and safety environment.

The role involves through-life management of project safety risk, supporting the delivery of safe and suitable equipment, systems and services. The work encompasses System Safety Policy and Governance, System Safety Management, and System Safety Assurance and Audit.

Team Context

The role sits within a dedicated Safety Engineering Skill Group within DE&S, working alongside engineers and other technical specialists to support acquisition and through-life management of Land equipment and systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the generation of technical safety requirements and documentation for subsystems, including consideration of in-service support and associated costs.
• Identify, collate and evaluate technical safety data to support the management and maturity of project documentation and successful technical outcomes.
• Work within relevant safety legislation, regulation, policy, processes and standards to deliver technical documentation, taking account of quality, safety, security, sustainability and subsystem interoperability.
• Contribute to technical risk management activities at project and programme level.
• Support the generation, update and review of safety artefacts and safety cases relating to equipment.
• Collaborate with subsystem teams and specialists on technical safety requirements.
• Support safety testing, verification, validation and evaluation.
• Support safety decisions relating to through-life support and modification of operational subsystems.
• Support technical assurance activities within the safety engineering discipline.
• Support disposal and decommissioning of equipment.
• Draft recommendations relating to the relevant technical area.

Essential Skills, Qualifications and Experience

• A Science, Technology, Engineering and/or Mathematics based qualification at RQF Level 3, or Scottish/international equivalent.
• Experience of providing technical advice and delivering successful engineering outcomes.
• Working towards professional registration as an Engineering Technician (EngTech) or Registered Science Technician (RSciTech) with a relevant professional body or institution.
• Awareness of financial budgets, with the ability to contribute to business cases and approvals, including generating or reviewing cost estimates for technical services or products.

Additional Information

• Hybrid role based at Abbey Wood, Bristol, with approximately 3 days per week in the office expected.
