Head of Product - Participant Recruitment
Our Future Health is building a resource to help researchers improve the prevention, detection and treatment of disease. Reaching three million fully consented participants is a critical milestone on our journey towards five million.
We’re looking for a senior product leader to help us get there. Y ou’ll lead the product portfolio responsible for recruiting, onboarding and engaging participants, improving how people discover the programme, decide to take part and complete their journey.
This is a scaling role. We need someone who has helped products, teams and operating environments grow from established foundations: improving performance, building stronger ways of working and increasing impact as the organisation grows. You’ll bring a commercial mindset to product decisions, with a clear understanding of how acquisition, engagement and retention contribute to sustainable growth.
You’ll lead and develop Product Managers, set a clear direction across multiple squads and make sure digital products, operational processes and data capabilities work together as one coherent participant experience.
What you'll do
You’ll own the product strategy for participant recruitment and onboarding, deciding where to focus investment, what to prioritise and how to measure success. You’ll connect organisational ambition to practical product choices, giving teams a clear view of what matters and why.
You’ll work closely with senior colleagues across Product, Engineering, Delivery, Operations and User-Centred Design. That means building alignment across different priorities, while being prepared to challenge assumptions, push back when needed and influence decisions at senior level. We’re looking for someone who listens and collaborates, but can hold their position when the evidence supports it.
As a leader, you’ll set high standards and create the conditions for people to do their best work. You’ll coach and challenge Product Managers, strengthen accountability and help the team deliver measurable outcomes at pace.
- Set and communicate the product strategy for participant recruitment, aligned to organisational priorities and the three million participant milestone.
- Lead a portfolio of recruitment product squads, ensuring their roadmaps combine into a clear, joined-up participant journey.
- Improve performance across the participant funnel, using research, analytics and experimentation to increase acquisition, conversion and completion.
- Identify opportunities for growth through product improvements, new capabilities, partnerships and better use of digital and operational channels.
- Make sure significant investments have clear owners, success measures and expected impact.
- Lead, coach and develop Product Managers, setting clear expectations for delivery, decision-making and personal development.
- Review and challenge product strategies, discovery, roadmaps and prioritisation, helping teams focus on the outcomes with the greatest impact.
- Build consistency across the portfolio in planning, discovery, delivery, estimation and stakeholder communication.
- Set and review portfolio and squad OKRs, track progress and act quickly when performance, delivery or dependencies are off track.
- Work with Engineering, Delivery, Operational Recruitment Strategy and User-Centred Design to deliver important initiatives on time and to the right standard.
- Communicate priorities, progress and risks clearly, including to executives and other senior stakeholders.
- Lead portfolio reviews, demonstrations and show-and-tells that support transparency, learning and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Significant experience leading multiple Product Managers in a digital product organisation.
- Experience owning and shaping a portfolio of products, rather than leading a single product in isolation.
- A track record of developing high-performing product teams through coaching, clear expectations, constructive challenge and accountability.
- Experience scaling product teams, products or operating environments, improving performance as complexity and ambition grow.
- Strong commercial judgement and experience connecting product choices to growth, customer value and organisational outcomes.
- Experience improving acquisition, conversion, engagement or retention through product-led optimisation.
- The confidence to influence senior stakeholders, challenge constructively and push back when priorities or proposals do not support the evidence or agreed outcomes.
- A collaborative leadership style: able to build trust and alignment while making clear decisions and holding your ground when needed.
- Experience setting, implementing and measuring OKRs, with a focus on outcomes rather than activity or feature delivery.
- Experience balancing discovery and delivery, adapting your approach to the problem and context.
- Experience working closely with Engineering, Design, Delivery and operational teams.
- The ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment and stay hands-on when the situation calls for it.
