Senior Accountant | with AU Accounting Experience
Overview of the Role The Senior Accountant will support a portfolio of Australian clients across accounting, taxation, compliance, and advisory services, working closely with Partners, Managers, and client-facing staff to deliver exceptional outcomes.
This role is responsible for managing client engagements, reviewing complex accounting work, providing technical guidance to team members, and acting as a key point of contact for clients. You will take ownership of client deliverables while supporting the development of junior team members and contributing to a high-performance team environment.
Main duties include:
- Prepare and review financial statements, income tax returns, BAS, IAS, and other compliance obligations for companies, trusts, partnerships, and individuals.
- Manage end-to-end client engagements, ensuring deadlines and deliverables are met.
- Build strong client relationships and act as a primary contact for day-to-day accounting and taxation matters.
- Assist with tax planning, business structuring, and general business advisory services.
- Research and resolve complex accounting, taxation, and compliance issues.
- Review work completed by junior team members and provide technical guidance, coaching, and feedback.
- Work closely with Partners and Managers on complex client matters and advisory projects.
- Contribute to training, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support workflow coordination and help maintain quality standards across the team.
- Assist with onboarding and development of team members and provide leadership support when required.
Requirements
- 6+ years' experience working with Australian accounting and taxation clients.
- Strong technical knowledge of Australian taxation, accounting standards, compliance requirements, and business structures.
- Demonstrated experience preparing and reviewing financial statements, income tax returns, BAS, IAS, and other compliance obligations for Australian entities.
- ·Strong technical knowledge and practical experience in income tax, capital gains tax (CGT), GST compliance, and fringe benefits tax (FBT).
- Experience managing client relationships and communicating directly with clients.
- Strong proficiency with Xero, Xero Practice Manager (XPM), Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook
- Ability to conduct independent research on complex tax, accounting and regulatory matters.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Experience reviewing work and supporting the development of junior team members.
- Demonstrated ability to manage a varied workload, prioritise competing deadlines, and consistently deliver high-quality outcomes in a client service environment with minimal supervision.
- Strong attention to detail, personal accountability, and a proactive approach to problem-solving and client service.
- Demonstrates adaptability and a willingness to leverage emerging technologies and AI tools to enhance productivity and problem-solving.
