Lead Full-Stack Engineer — Mobile (Nepal)
Lead Full-Stack Engineer — Mobile
Company: Varicon Location: Kathmandu, Nepal — Hybrid Employment Type: Full-time Application Deadline: September 20 Apply to: hr@varicon.com.au
About the Role
As Lead Full-Stack Engineer — Mobile, you'll be the technical owner of our Flutter mobile applications and the go-to engineer for mobile architecture, delivery, and complex technical problems. You'll lead development of our field-worker and admin/employee apps, working across Flutter/Dart and Python (Django/DRF) when backend changes are required. This is a hands-on technical leadership role — not a people-management role — with significant time spent writing code, reviewing PRs, and solving hard technical problems.
What You'll Do
- Own the architecture and technical direction of Varicon's Flutter mobile applications
- Design and maintain robust offline-first workflows — local storage, background sync, conflict resolution, and reliability under poor connectivity
- Write and ship production Flutter/Dart code as a core part of the role; work full-stack when required (Django/DRF)
- Own the mobile testing strategy (unit, widget, integration, E2E) and drive up code quality
- Own mobile release reliability — CI/CD, App Store/Google Play releases, OTA updates (e.g. Shorebird)
- Monitor and resolve production issues using tools like Crashlytics and Sentry, driving root-cause fixes
- Mentor mobile and full-stack engineers through pairing, reviews, and technical coaching
- Partner closely with Product, Design, and Web/Backend Engineering to deliver features end-to-end
- Use AI-assisted tools (Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) as part of daily engineering workflow
What We're Looking For
Must-Haves
- 6-8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with significant hands-on mobile development experience
- Strong, production-level experience with Flutter and Dart
- Experience leading technical delivery for a mobile product or significant mobile domain
- Strong understanding of Flutter state management (BLoC, Riverpod, Provider, or equivalent)
- Experience with offline-first applications and data synchronisation
- Experience with native iOS/Android build and release processes, including App Store and Google Play submission
- Strong testing background across unit, widget, integration, and E2E levels
- Comfortable working with Python and Django/DRF (required)
- Experience designing and consuming REST APIs; understanding of relational databases and asynchronous processing
- Proven hands-on use of AI coding tools as part of a normal workflow
Nice-to-Haves
- FastAPI experience
- Experience with OTA update tools such as Shorebird
- AWS experience
- Experience with CI/CD and mobile release automation tooling
Experience Level
6-8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with deep, hands-on ownership of a production Flutter/mobile codebase, plus solid working knowledge of Django/DRF for backend work.
What Varicon Offers
- Competitive salary and performance-based bonuses
- Festive Bonus
- Access to Cursor, Claude Code, and AI-powered code reviews
- Significant ownership of mobile technical direction
- Opportunity to solve real-world offline-first, sync, and field-connectivity challenges
- A collaborative, learning-focused engineering environment
