Journeyman Automotive Mechanic - Fleet & Shop Operations
Total Group of Companies is looking for a Journeyman Automotive Mechanic to join our growing team at our Red Deer County shop.
Our light-duty fleet consists of approximately 50 vehicles , primarily Ford, Dodge/Ram and Chevrolet half-ton and one-ton trucks, along with smaller SUVs. This position will support fleet maintenance, inspections, diagnostics and repairs, as well as trailer maintenance and general shop operations.

This is a good fit for someone who wants to work locally on a Monday–Friday schedule , enjoys variety throughout the day and is comfortable contributing wherever the team needs support.
Daily tasks and activities include, but are not limited to:
- Perform scheduled fleet maintenance, servicing and vehicle inspections.
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues and complete repairs within your qualifications.
- Identify maintenance needs and communicate repair priorities, required parts and vehicle downtime.
- Complete trailer inspections, maintenance and repairs.
- Perform seasonal tire swaps and tire maintenance as needed.
- Maintain accurate service records and document completed work and outstanding deficiencies.
- Safely connect, disconnect, maneuver and haul trailers, including 40-foot, gooseneck and standard pull-type trailers.
- Move vehicles and equipment and assist with loading, unloading and preparing equipment for jobs.
- Assist with general shop duties, organization and housekeeping.
- Work with the shop team to keep vehicles and equipment safe, maintained and ready for use.
The ideal candidate would possess the following traits:
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Flexibility and willingness to take on a variety of tasks.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills and a practical approach to problem-solving.
- Attention to detail and pride in completing work properly.
- A safety-driven approach to vehicle repairs, equipment handling and towing.
- A dependable, cooperative attitude.
