About the role:

As Salmon's engineering team grows, you'll help keep our high-load PostgreSQL infrastructure reliable, secure, and ready to scale with the business.

What you'll do:

• Own a high-load PostgreSQL environment running around 20,000 transactions per minute, where reliability and fast incident response are non-negotiable
• Work across a modern AWS data stack (RDS, Aurora) managed through Terraform, alongside engineers who rely on your calls on schema and query design
• Partner closely with the development team on database architecture, query optimization, and new database-related projects and services

What you'll own:

• Support and administer a high-load PostgreSQL database handling roughly 20,000 transactions per minute
• Perform and maintain zero-downtime (seamless) database migrations
• Proactively identify and resolve database issues and performance bottlenecks
• Configure and maintain PostgreSQL infrastructure in AWS (RDS, Aurora) through Terraform
• Drive database architecture optimization, performance tuning, and bottleneck analysis, and propose improvements
• Own incident and performance management for databases, and take the initiative to flag issues and propose work — not just handle incoming tickets

What makes you a strong fit:

• 3–5+ years of professional experience in software engineering or data engineering
• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL — query optimization, indexing strategies, replication, and performance troubleshooting
• Experience with large-scale data systems, ETL pipelines, or distributed backend systems
• Solid understanding of SQL performance tuning, schema design, and transaction management
• Hands-on experience with Linux systems, monitoring tools, and automation scripting, plus familiarity with AWS services (Aurora, RDS, Redshift, Kafka Debezium connectors)
• Basic understanding of CI/CD pipelines, Git, and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
