Location: South Africa – Remote Employment Type: Full-Time Hours: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM EST, with some flexibility Salary: R 72,100–85,000

About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced Financial Controller to take ownership of the financial function and help ensure the business has accurate, reliable, and actionable financial information.

This role is ideal for someone who is commercially minded, hands-on, and comfortable working independently. You’ll be responsible for financial transactions, reconciliations, reporting, expenditure oversight, and identifying opportunities to improve financial processes and control costs.

A formal CA qualification is not essential . We’re open to candidates with different levels of formal financial training, provided they have strong practical experience and a solid understanding of financial controls, accounting, and reporting.

The ideal person will be someone who doesn’t just process numbers, but is naturally curious about what the numbers are telling them and is confident asking questions when something doesn’t look right.

Key Responsibilities

• Take ownership of day-to-day financial control and accounting activities.
• Manage and review financial transactions, expenditure, and reconciliations.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records.
• Prepare and analyse financial reports to support business decision-making.
• Monitor financial performance and identify unusual trends, discrepancies, or potential risks.
• Review expenditure and identify opportunities for cost savings and greater efficiency.
• Support improvements to financial processes, controls, and reporting.
• Investigate discrepancies and follow issues through to resolution.
• Provide clear financial insights to non-financial stakeholders.
• Ensure financial processes are followed consistently and accurately.
• Work closely with internal stakeholders and confidently challenge expenditure or processes where appropriate.
• Take ownership of financial issues and proactively identify solutions.
• Maintain strong attention to detail while keeping sight of the wider commercial picture.

Requirements

Ideally, you will have:

• 5–10 years of relevant experience in Financial Control, Accounting, Finance Management, or a similar role.
• Strong hands-on experience with QuickBooks or a comparable accounting platform.
• Experience managing financial transactions, reconciliations, and expenditure.
• Strong financial analysis and reporting skills.
• Experience identifying cost-saving opportunities or improving financial processes.
• Ability to identify unusual trends, discrepancies, and financial risks.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Good commercial awareness and the ability to understand the bigger picture.
• Experience working independently and taking ownership of a financial function.
• Strong organisational skills and follow-through.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Qualifications

A CA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent professional qualification would be highly advantageous, particularly for candidates operating at a more senior level, but is not a requirement .

We are equally open to candidates who have built their expertise through substantial hands-on financial experience.

Essential:

• Strong experience with QuickBooks
