About the team and what we do: The Sensitive and Complex Casework Team (SCCT) sits within the NMC’s legal services and plays a vital role in progressing the most complex, high-risk and sensitive fitness to practise cases. Our work supports the NMC’s statutory duty to protect the public, while ensuring that investigations are fair, proportionate and timely. The team works closely with investigators, case officers, lawyers and external partners, often on cases that involve heightened public interest or significant risk considerations, where careful legal analysis and sound judgement are essential. As part of SCCT, you’ll be working in a collaborative, supportive environment where shared learning, consistency of approach and professional development are actively encouraged.

Your role and impact

You’ll be involved in complex, high-profile activity linked to many large public inquiries, with support in place to help you navigate the challenges that this work can bring.

As a Paralegal in the SCCT, you’ll play an important role in supporting the effective investigation and progression of sensitive and complex cases.

You’ll support lawyers by progressing complex cases and managing interim order risk. At times, you’ll also carry out investigation activity such as planning cases, taking witness statements, drafting reports or assisting with instructions for case presenters.

Your work will help ensure that cases are progressed efficiently, risks are identified and managed appropriately —directly contributing to public protection and the quality of the NMC’s regulatory decision-making.

Salary Details London - £34,676- £38,529 Edinburgh - £32,249 - £35,832
