The opportunity
We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our core team. You'll lead major technical initiatives from design through to production and help lift engineering practices across the team.
Over the next year, our focus is on:
- Growing engagement and retention through a better learning experience, progress tracking across video and article content, and lifecycle journeys and push notifications.
- Defining an API contract with Netwealth and building account linking and data sync between the two platforms, starting with a pilot.
- Laying the identity, data and security foundations for future financial products.
What you'll do
- Lead the architecture, design and delivery of major features and platform capabilities.
- Build features across our React, TypeScript and Ionic hybrid app, TypeScript services and APIs, and Firestore data models.
- Design and build integrations with partner systems, including API contracts, authentication, identity linking and data sync. You'll work directly with Netwealth's engineering teams.
- Instrument features in Mixpanel and use engagement and retention data, such as monthly active users and cohort retention, to guide product decisions.
- Build the events and data that power lifecycle journeys and push notifications in Iterable.
- Maintain high standards for automated testing, CI/CD, monitoring and security.
- Break work into well-scoped pieces, write clear technical documentation and decision records, and raise risks and blockers early.
- Use AI coding tools to speed up delivery and help the team adopt them.
- Mentor other engineers through code review and pairing.
Our stack
- Front end: React, TypeScript, Ionic
- Back end: TypeScript
- Data: Firebase Firestore (NoSQL)
- Product and messaging: Mixpanel, Iterable
- Tooling: Sentry, Figma, Notion, Claude Code [confirm]
What we're looking for
- Strong professional software engineering experience, including time in a senior or lead role at a startup or high-growth company.
- Deep TypeScript expertise across front end and back end, and strong React experience.
- Experience designing and shipping APIs and integrations with third-party or partner systems, such as authentication, identity linking or data synchronisation.
- Strong data modelling experience with NoSQL databases, ideally Firestore.
- Solid testing and CI/CD practice, and good judgement about when to favour speed or reliability.
- Experience instrumenting product analytics and using data to make product decisions.
- Technical leadership experience, including owning complex projects and working across product, design and partner teams.
- Clear, proactive communication. You scope work realistically, flag risks early and keep people informed.
- Regular, effective use of AI tools in your engineering work.
Nice to have
- Experience in financial services, fintech or another regulated industry.
- Experience shipping hybrid mobile apps and managing app store releases.
- Experience with lifecycle messaging platforms such as Iterable, or push notification infrastructure.
- Experience building learning or content platforms.
