Purpose of the role

The Pump Attendant will be responsible for safely and accurately dispensing fuel to customers, processing payments, maintaining a clean and safe forecourt, supporting basic vehicle services, and ensuring accurate recording and reconciliation of fuel sales and shift activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Dispense petrol and diesel safely and accurately in accordance with established procedures.
  • Operate POS systems and accurately process cash and card payments.
  • Maintain forecourt cleanliness and safety by sweeping, cleaning spills, emptying waste and keeping the service area orderly.
  • Monitor fuel levels in tanks and report any discrepancies or unusual readings to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Provide basic vehicle services, including checking oil levels, tire pressure and windshield fluid.
  • Provide professional customer service by greeting and assisting customers and responding appropriately to complaints or concerns.
  • Conduct end-of-shift reconciliation and accurately document sales totals, fuel volumes dispensed and any incidents occurring during the shift.
  • Follow safety procedures for the handling of petrol, diesel and other flammable materials.
  • Understand and follow emergency shutdown procedures and other applicable station safety protocols.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Secondary school education or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a petrol station, pump attendant, retail, cashiering or other customer-facing environment is an added advantage.
  • Basic ability to operate POS systems and handle cash and card payments accurately.
  • Basic numeracy and record-keeping skills.
  • Good customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and instructions when handling fuel and other flammable materials.
  • Physically able to perform forecourt duties, including standing for extended periods and maintaining cleanliness.
  • Reliable, attentive and responsible in handling cash, fuel and customer transactions.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow shift schedules.
