The Line Technician supports the construction, maintenance, repair, and removal of overhead and underground power systems. Working under the direction of a Foreman or Construction Manager, you’ll contribute to the safe and efficient installation and maintenance of high- and low-voltage transmission and distribution systems.
This opportunity is well suited to an Apprentice Lineman Technician or experienced utility construction professional who is looking to build their skills and progress toward Lineman certification. You’ll work as part of a field crew, gaining hands-on experience across transmission and distribution projects while developing your ability to read construction drawings, troubleshoot electrical systems, and perform work safely in a variety of environments.
The role requires travel to project sites and the flexibility to work overtime and weekends as project schedules require.
What You’ll Do
- Build and maintain power systems: Assist with the construction, installation, maintenance, repair, and removal of overhead and underground transmission and distribution systems.
- Install electrical infrastructure: Install and maintain power lines, cables, electrical equipment, and related components as part of utility construction projects.
- Troubleshoot and repair: Assist with troubleshooting and repairing overhead transmission and distribution lines and associated electrical systems.
- Perform inspections and maintenance: Inspect electrical systems and components and assist with identifying and correcting defects or damage.
- Support underground construction: Assist with laying and maintaining underground cables and electrical systems in trenches and other work areas.
- Work safely: Follow Forbes Bros. Occupational Health and Safety requirements, project-specific procedures, and safe work practices. Identify hazards and apply appropriate controls before and during work.
- Read and follow plans: Develop the ability to interpret site plans, construction drawings, and work instructions.
- Communicate with the crew: Take direction from Foremen and Construction Managers while providing clear communication regarding work progress, hazards, and field conditions.
- Support crew productivity: Work collaboratively with other crew members to complete assigned tasks safely, efficiently, and within project deadlines.
- Develop your trade skills: Participate in training and complete required documentation as you work toward Lineman certification.
What You’ll Bring
- Minimum 6 months of experience as an Apprentice Lineman Technician or in a related role within the electrical utility, transmission, distribution, or powerline construction industry.
- Experience working on overhead and/or underground transmission and distribution systems is preferred.
- Ability to safely perform physically demanding work, including heavy lifting and manual labour in varying weather and jobsite conditions.
- Ability to accurately distinguish color-coded electrical conductors and components.
- Strong awareness of electrical construction hazards and the ability to follow established safety procedures and controls.
- Strong listening, communication, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
- Ability to take direction and work effectively as part of a field crew.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision when required.
- Willingness to travel and work frequent overtime and weekends based on project requirements.
- Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driver’s abstract.
- Completion of relevant lineman, electrical, or utility construction training is an asset. Candidates who are actively working toward Lineman certification are encouraged to apply.
Project, Pay Work Schedule
- Primary work location: Lebanon, Kentucky
- Working schedule: Monday-Friday
- Pay: $23-46/hr
- Per diem: $150
- Travel arrangements: This is a travelling, site-based role initially based in Lebanon, Kentucky. Employees are responsible for arranging and covering their own travel and accommodations. As projects are completed, crews may transition to other projects within the region, so regional travel is a regular part of the role.
- Anticipated project duration: 8-10 weeks
The range shown is the expected base pay range for this role. Final compensation will be determined based on role requirements, experience, qualifications, work location, applicable project/site requirements, internal equity, and any applicable collective agreement or union requirements.
This range does not include overtime, premiums, per diem / LOA, bonuses, benefits, or other forms of compensation unless specifically stated in the job posting.
Base Pay Range
$23 $46 USD
