Let’s be honest - not all engineering roles are built the same.

If you know lightning protection and surge protection, you already know how niche this is. The work matters, the standards are high, and the right engineers are hard to come by.

You’ll be working on everything from MOD sites and hospitals to high-rise residential buildings and major universities - installing systems that quite literally protect structures from catastrophic damage.

What the role actually looks like

As our Electrician, you will take ownership of the installation, testing, certification, and commissioning of surge protection devices (SPDs) in accordance with current regulations, industry standards, and project specifications.

• Carry out thorough site assessments, identify suitable installation locations, and complete all associated wiring, testing, and inspection activities.
• Produce accurate certification and documentation to confirm full compliance, identify and report defects or safety hazards, and provide detailed reports with recommendations for corrective actions.
• Plan and schedule your own workload, coordinate site visits, manage priorities across multiple projects, and ensure all works are completed safely, efficiently, and within agreed timescales.
• Support our lightning protection engineers when required—undertaking soil resistivity and earth resistance testing, as well as carrying out inspection and testing of lightning protection systems (full training will be given where required).
• Communicate findings effectively with clients, offer expert technical advice, and ensure safety protocols and company standards are always followed.

We aim to keep work regional, but there will be occasional stays away depending on projects.

What you’ll need

• Qualifications:
• NVQ Level 3 Qualification in Electrical Installation (or equivalent).
• IET BS 7671:2018 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification.
• In-depth, practical knowledge of BS 7671, IET Wiring Regulations, and other relevant industry standards and codes. Stay up to date with best practices.
• A valid UK driving licence and the willingness and flexibility to undertake occasional working away as project requirements dictate.
• Strong communication skills, exceptional attention to detail, and a proactive attitude towards health, safety, and compliance.
