Position Overview

As a Test Engineer (Engine Structures & Dynamics), you would support engine structures and dynamics validation for large power systems. This role will focus on developing, conducting, analyzing, and managing validation testing for engine components and systems, helping ensure product quality and resolve field issues through vibration and structural testing.

The Test Engineer will work closely with design, simulation, and cross-functional engineering teams to evaluate complex structural failure modes, provide technical guidance, and drive solutions across new technology, new product introduction, continuous product improvement, and supplier assurance programs.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute validation test plans for engine components and systems.
• Conduct engine structures, dynamics, vibration, and structural validation testing.
• Set up test equipment, instrumentation, and gaging as required.
• Utilize data acquisition systems such as eDAQ, LMS, and cDAQ.
• Analyze test data related to linear vibration, stress/strain, and structural dynamics.
• Perform and support modal testing and vibration analysis.
• Use tools such as ME-SCOPE and LMS for test data analysis.
• Evaluate complex structural failure modes and provide technical recommendations.
• Coordinate the design and procurement of prototype hardware needed for testing.
• Support validation of core engine systems, including rotating components, cylinder packs, heads, blocks, housings, and genset packages.
• Plan projects, manage testing activities, generate technical reports, and communicate conclusions and results to stakeholders.
• Collaborate with design, simulation, and other engineering teams to develop and validate product solutions.
• Identify opportunities to improve validation efficiency and champion new testing initiatives.
• Manage multiple engine programs and priorities while maintaining strong attention to detail.

Requirements

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering
• AND 4+ years of testing experience; relevant internship experience may be considered

Required Skills

• Basic understanding of internal combustion engines and machinery
• Experience with test planning, execution, data analysis, or validation
• Strong technical communication and project management skills
• Strong initiative and attention to detail
• Ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively across multiple teams
• Understanding of customer needs and product applications

Preferred Skills

• Experience with structural dynamics and vibration testing
• NVH testing experience
• Experience with structural simulation
• Experience with data acquisition systems such as eDAQ, LMS, or cDAQ
• Experience with ME-SCOPE or LMS analysis tools
• Experience performing modal testing
• Experience with engine testing or engine component validation
• Development Research Engineer or Test Engineer background
