Lead Auditor - GAGAS/Compliance

AlphaGov is seeking a Lead Auditor (GAGAS/Compliance) to lead audit engagements under a multi-year public-sector work-order vehicle supporting a state transportation compliance bureau — including external audits, desk reviews, and investigations, with supervision of staff auditors.

What you'll do: Lead GAGAS/GAAS-compliant audit engagements assigned via work orders (external audits, desk reviews, investigations) Supervise staff auditors and ensure workpaper and report quality Produce GAGAS-compliant audit reports and workpapers to client standards Support training and knowledge transfer for client compliance staff Contribute lead-auditor qualifications and past-performance narrative to AlphaGov proposals when permissioned

Requirements

Required: Degree in an accounting-related field with a minimum of 27 semester hours in accounting (transcripts/diplomas required) Hands-on GAGAS and/or GAAS audit experience Familiarity with FAR Part 31, 2 CFR 200, and related grant / overhead audit frameworks (AASHTO Audit Guide and/or 23 CFR 172 a plus) Comfortable as a 1099 / project-based collaborator with substantial travel (about 25%+ expected) to Springfield, IL and statewide client facilities

Nice to have: CPA Transportation-agency or grant-funded-program audit experience Prior state DOT / Bureau of Investigations & Compliance–adjacent work 2–3 prior GAGAS or compliance-audit engagements you can cite (scope, dates, role)
