Estimator - Commercial Electrical Construction

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Estimator to prepare accurate and competitive bids for commercial and industrial electrical construction projects throughout the Houston area.

This role will manage the estimating process from initial plan review through project handoff , including electrical takeoffs, scope analysis, vendor and subcontractor pricing, cost development, and proposal preparation.

The ideal candidate has strong commercial electrical estimating experience , a solid understanding of electrical construction, and the ability to manage multiple bids while collaborating with Project Managers, general contractors, engineers, vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed estimates for commercial and industrial electrical construction projects.
  • Review electrical drawings, specifications, contracts, and bid documents to determine project scope and pricing requirements.
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontracted work.
  • Solicit, evaluate, and compare pricing from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Develop complete bid proposals, scope clarifications, pricing summaries, exclusions, and value engineering recommendations.
  • Identify scope gaps, constructability concerns, project risks, exclusions, and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers, general contractors, engineers, architects, vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams throughout the estimating process.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and scope review meetings as needed.
  • Support project handoff by providing estimate breakdowns, budgets, assumptions, and scope clarifications to the operations team.
  • Maintain estimating databases, historical pricing, bid records, vendor information, and subcontractor relationships.
  • Monitor material costs, labor rates, market conditions, and industry trends to maintain accurate and competitive estimates.
  • Manage multiple bids simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and meeting submission deadlines.
  • Participate in post-bid reviews and identify opportunities to improve estimating processes and accuracy.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of commercial electrical estimating experience.
  • Proven experience estimating commercial and industrial electrical construction projects.
  • Experience with healthcare, education, institutional, municipal, or other complex electrical projects is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial electrical systems, NEC requirements , construction methods, drawings, and specifications.
  • Proven ability to perform detailed electrical quantity takeoffs and develop complete bid proposals.
  • Proficiency with electrical estimating software such as Accubid, ConEst, McCormick , or similar platforms.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple bids and competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to identify scope discrepancies, pricing risks, and potential cost impacts.
  • Residential-only estimating experience will not meet the requirements for this position.
