Senior Backend Engineer I - Platform

Role Overview

As a Senior Backend Engineer I in the Platform team, you build and maintain the shared backend services that every Ajaib product depends on, such as authentication, notifications, configuration and API gateways. You deliver well-defined features with high quality, learn how to design services that many teams rely on, and help keep the foundations stable and secure.

• Design, build and maintain shared backend services and APIs used by many product teams.
• Deliver features from technical design to production, with tests, monitoring and alerting.
• Keep APIs stable and backward compatible, and communicate changes clearly to the teams that use them.
• Build secure services that protect user identity, sessions and personal data.
• Write clear documentation and examples so other engineers can use your services without asking for help.
• Write clean, well-tested code and take an active part in code reviews.
• Investigate production issues, find root causes and help ship lasting fixes.
• Improve the performance and reliability of the services your team owns.
• Work with product engineering teams, Security and Infrastructure to turn requirements into reliable solutions.

Requirements

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience: 4+ years of professional backend engineering, including running services in production.
• Languages: Strong in Java, Go or another modern backend language.
• System Design: Good understanding of microservices, REST/gRPC APIs, event-driven design and reliability basics.
• Data & Messaging: Hands-on with relational databases (query tuning), caching (Redis) and messaging (Kafka).
• Security: Working knowledge of authentication and authorization (OAuth2, JWT) and secure coding.
• Infrastructure: Experience with cloud platforms (GCP or AWS), containers and CI/CD.
• Mindset: Ownership mindset, clear communication and a service attitude toward internal users. Experience in fintech or another regulated environment is a plus.
